当時２歳だった娘に呼ばれていた「たんたん」。
愛おしい呼び名に、lanternの「tern」、ひょうたんの「たん」をあわせて屋号にしました。
The name of my store is a combination of my daughter’s nickname for me “tantan” and “tern” from lantern, as well as the sound of the Japanese word for gourd “hyotan”.

豊橋で生まれ育つ
幼少期の秘密基地づくりとその小さな世界を絵に描くこと、10代のエスニックアクセサリー作りからモノづくりがはじまりました。
気になったことはとことんやってみたい、探究心と好奇心で、20代東南アジアを旅して知ったジェンベ（ジャンベ）。音楽との出会いから、30代はトラディショナルミュージックのワークショップでアフリカに。ジェンベの皮張りも学び、自分の大好きな音楽とモノづくりが繋がり、そこでひょうたんが生活の中にあふれるようにたくさんの楽器に使われていることを知りました。
2017年長野の小川村に移住
友人の家で目にしたひょうたんで作られたスピーカーとランプに衝撃を受け、その日からアフリカでの日々や、古来の日本でもそうだったように生活にひょうたんが溶け込む風景を想い描き、ひょうたんでのモノづくりをスタートしました。
栽培からはじめ、収穫したひょうたんをランプに。高知のひょうたんlamp作家hyoutan magicさんの作品に惚れ込み、技法を学ばせていただき、いまのスタイルで制作をしています。
Born in Toyohashi, Japan
I loved making things as a child and started making ethnic jewelry in my teens.
My avid curiosity to try many things led me to southeast Asia in my 20s where I encountered a Djembe drum for the first time.
My love for music later led me to Africa where I joined a traditional music workshop and I discovered a world which fulfilled both my love for music and creating things.
It was in Africa that I also discovered the world of gourds and saw how they are used in so many ways in daily life including making instruments.
In 2017 I moved to Ogawa village in Nagano prefecture. I had the chance to see a speaker made out of a gourd at a friend's house and it had a huge impact on my life. I recalled the time I spent in Africa and was also reminded of ancient Japan where I could imagine gourds being used in daily life. This was when I first felt inspired to create things out of gourds.
Special lamps are created from the gourds which I cultivate and harvest myself.
